Kalmar Slott sits in the city of Kalmar Sweden originally built as a fortress the earliest dates are the 12th century. Over the centuries the fortress evolved into a castle and today is an incredible site to behold. Oozing with charm and splendid 17th and 18th century faux painting of marble, wood and stone to imitate more expensive materials as the Swedes do best it has inspired Casa Gusto to recreate a Kalmar chest inspired by a faux stone painted outside the castle.
Sweden never disappoints in its long history of decorative painting. Wood, always readily available, what a better canvas to imitate much rarer materials. Influenced by neoclassicism as well as baroque and rococo styles it is a Candyland of exemplary decorative painting
